ARTIST STATEMENT: SOPHIA-YEMISI ADEYEMO-ROSS
My depictions of Blackness are a means of healing while visually investigating both interpersonal and systemic connections between various souls and bodies. As a multiracial American of Nigerian descent, I find source material in a combination of Yoruba folklore and my own dreams. The work then becomes an attempt to process those stories through a contemporary lens; layered with implications of my own experiences navigating the American social landscape.
Sophia-Yemisi Adeyemo-Ross is currently pursuing a BFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. You can find her work on Instagram and on her website.
